Claremont Speedway

August 12, 2000 NEAR reaches Claremont with thirteen cars and the Hall of Fame Trailer. Track time was from 1-3 p.m. A picnic was shared by NEAR and STAR members with Dan Gaudiana bringing orange drink, potato salad and beans; George Clark brought the grill and tables and Gus Betencourt bringing ten pounds of homemade sausage. STAR supplied the hamburgers and steamed hot dogs, corn, several dishes of salads, lasagna and many other tasty treats. Everything went well, and fun was enjoyed by all.

Our feature was paced by Dick Durocher in the 999 Coach and Skip Neilsen's street legal 414 Hemi powered stock car. The twelve lap feature checkered flag was won by Pete Bonzani's #60 followed by the 36 of Randy Hall and third went to the 63 of Barry Roy. The rest of the pack went (in no specific order) the 69 of Pete Newsham, Bob Seymour's cent sign, the 49 of Bob Seller, Jack Gelgut's 18 which was driven by Brian Janik, Loyd Hutchin's 176, and Paul Zampieri with his 302 flathead. Tom Lanza sat out the feature with rear brake problems.

Some notable members spotted at the event included Walt Bavier, the brothers' Burgess (Moon and Frank), Willie Martin, Dave & Peggy Scott and Mark Anatriello.
